# Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA)

### <mark style="color:blue;">Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA)</mark>

DCA lets you automatically split a buy order into smaller purchases over time, reducing the impact of price volatility and smoothing out your entry.

Instead of aping in all at once, DCA spreads your buys across a set duration - so you're not trying to time the perfect entry.

#### <mark style="color:$primary;">How it Works:</mark>

1. Choose Order Type (Buy/Sell) and Select the DCA tab in the ticket
2. Enter your total quantity (e.g., 50 USDC)
3. Set your Duration (e.g., 120 mins)
4. Set your Trade Segments - the number of segments to split your trade order into (or leave on "auto" and Definitive will choose the optimal number of segments)
5. Submit and let Turbo execute trades automatically over the specified timeframe

#### <mark style="color:$primary;">Use Cases:</mark>

* **Averaging in/out of a position:** Accumulate or exit over time instead of buying the top or selling the bottom
* **Reducing risk:** Spread entries across multiple price points to minimize impact of short-term swings
* **Set and forget:** Eliminate the need to manually place multiple orders or watch charts

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.definitive.fi/platform/turbo/dollar-cost-averaging-dca.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
